Es un formato de códigos de barras dimensionales, cuya información puede ser leída mediante cámaras de fotos de móviles. En España lo emplea Movistar para que los clientes puedan descargarse aplicaciones y juegos.
- ¿Cómo funciona?
En primer lugar tienes que descargarte la aplicación específica de lectura de códigos BiDi que solo tiene el coste de navegación (0.50 € aproximadamente). Una vez te hayas instalado esta aplicación en tu teléfono móvil no tendrás que volver a hacer este paso.
Cuando veas un juego o un programa que te quieras descargar, ejecutas la aplicación y capturas el código BiDi. La aplicación lo reconocerá y te pedirá permiso para descargarlo.
- ¿Cuál es el problema?
Movistar no utiliza un estándar, BiDi es un sistema propietario de Movistar desarrollado por Scanbuy que emplea EZCodes. Hay estándares de códigos bidimensionales como Datamatrix o Código QR que al parecer están muy extendidos en otros países.
Si se hiciera popular el empleo de este sistema, facilitaría las cosas a la hora de pagar el parking, las entradas de cine, la compra en un supermercado, el alquiler de una pista de padel, el forfait…

Mi primera experiencia con estos códigos fue al tratar con la placa que tengo que estudiar en el laboratorio. Algunos chips llevan una pegatina que en vez de indicar el "part number" o número de identificación, llevan un código BiDi para poder identificar automáticamente el chip. supongo que ésto se hace porque a veces el numero de identificación grabado en el encapsulado del chip pierde brillo o contraste, disminuyendo así su legibilidad.
Personalemente pienso que los más molones son los Datamatrix, son más retro no?Aunque esteticamente me gustan más los Bidis

En la ultima edición de paginas amarillas aparecen dos códigos del tipo (aparentemente9 datamatrix. Se leen perfectamente con el lector de kaywa (http://reader.kaywa.com/) pero lo curioso es que los códigos que parecen en la web de paginas amarillas son más parecidos a los bidis de movistar que a los que realmente bienen en la publicación. Al menos han usado un formato estandar, como es lógico.
